LES BROWN AND THE BAND OF RENOWN
LOS ANGELES, CA: As named by the Guinness Book Of World Records, Les Brown And The Band Of Renown are officially listed as “The Longest Running Musical Organization In The History Of Popular Music” and was named as “America’s Best Dance Band” for 10 consecutive years by Downbeat Magazine. Their 10, #1 hit songs include “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm” and the collossal, “Sentimental Journey”, sung by Doris Day, which became the unofficial anthem celebrating the return of American troops at the end of World War II. “This song is poignant even today,” says Les, Jr,, “… with the state of affairs today… welcoming the troops back home seems to have become a musical tradition of ours – and a proud one at that.”
The group was Bob Hope’s official band on radio, television and during the famous USO tours, for over 50 years. The Band of Renown starred in 18 of Bob Hope’s, prime time, network, television specials and served on the Dean Martin Television Show for ten years. Les Brown, Sr. who first formed the group in 1936 has since passed the baton to his son, Les Brown, Jr.
Their rich tradition in mainstream American media persists into the current day with a new PBS weekly, variety television series entitled, Branson Jubilee, currently airing on approximately 200 PBS stations. Branson Jubilee is a true family style variety show with celebrity guest stars as well as a cast of characters from Branson, MO. Each episode is co-hosted by Les Brown and features The Band of Renown.
Les is also co-host with Deana Martin (Dean Martin’s daughter) on The Music of Your Life nationally syndicated radio network, currently airing on over 120 stations. Les plays musical selections from the “great American songbook” and tells of his own personal memories of America’s best music and the stars that made it shine. Les’ show airs two hours per day during morning drive-time Monday thru Friday, and, three hours on Sunday evenings.
